LCD monitor screens, while a lot better to look at, are more prone to scratches over their CRT counterparts. As for me, I always have a screen protector to protect my laptop screen. When it’s time to clean my LCD screen, I always use a lint-free microfiber cloth (pranela works fine too). Still, accidents can happen.

While, generally, there’s no permanent way for you to have those scratches fixed, you can deal with them through temporary fixes so at least you won’t be bothered looking at your screen. Here’s a temporary fix using petroleum jelly.

  1. Clean the screen with a solution half-part isopropyl alcohol and half-part water.
  2. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth. (Tissue paper can scratch!)
  3. Using a cotton bud, generously dab on some petroleum jelly onto the scratch.
  4. Gently rubbing the jelly into the scratch to fill it in.
  5. Wipe the excess off with the clean cloth.

It works because petroleum jelly is supposed to be close in terms of optical density to the coating that LCD screens have. It “fools” the eye by visually “hiding” the scratch.
