Firefox 3 clinches world record

I am a fan of the Mozilla Firefox web browser and for me, it was a long wait for the release of its latest version – Firefox 3. To make the release special, the Firefox community organized a download marathon in an effort to secure the Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours.

The download marathon, dubbed “Download Day 2008″ was held from 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008. There were a total of 8,002,530 downloads recorded the said time span. With it being a world’s first, it became a whole new entry in the Guinness Book.

Firefox is considered to one of the more secure web browsers. It is a pioneer in tabbed browsing and customization. One can easily download skins to change the appearance and install plug-ins to enhance Firefox’s features. Most important of all, it is free to download and use. Currently, Firefox is second to Internet Explorer as the most used browser in the world.
